James considers himself an eclectic writer, having pursued writing projects that vary in scope and subject. His first published work was a poem called “Never Forget” that was a response to the tragedy of 9-11. It was published by the International Poetry Society when he was 14 years old.
In 2007 James had the opportunity to present several of his poems at the Western Michigan University Writing Symposium. Encouraged by the positive response and effect that presentation had, James started compiling his first book, Exit 41: Life in Small Town Michigan which he published a year later in 2008.
James’ mother, Mary, approached him in early 2011 about starting a Christ centered recovery program. Together, they published Ministry of Recovery: 12 Steps to Wholeness in February 2011. The first group currently meets at Berrien Center Bible Church in Berrien Springs, Michigan at 6:00PM on Saturdays (read more).
Entrepreneur
Since founding his first business in 2005 at the age of 18, James Tyler’s entrepreneurial pursuits have expanded immensely. Two days after he turned 18, he headed down to the county clerk’s office to register his first DBA (doing business as) for his web development business, Inspired Media Systems.
In that same year, his senior year of high school, his class voted him most likely to be the next Bill Gates and most likely to own a business – after he had already started IMS. James was the president of his Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter, placed first at the BPA State Leadership Conference in Computer Network Technology, and 14th at the BPA National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida.
James went on to develop numerous websites over the years as an independent contractor for several businesses, non-profit organizations, and local governments. During this time he also made thousands of dollars off of online advertising, affiliate marketing, mobile applications, and domain name leasing/sales. In 2009, with his father, Daniel Tyler, James founded Yorkshire Media Holdings, LLC of which he is now a Managing Partner.
Through YMH, James has published over four books, 500 websites, and 50,000 mobile applications. His most notable companies through YMH are SnagApp and NoteBlaze.
